Cross events

Nothing much been happening lately so not much updates here. :P

Spent 2 weekends this month going to cross events (:

IVP
The girls lost the championship this year, but NUS still managed to win mens and overall. (:

It was really exiting to watch some of the races. Madan is still the defending IVP champ in his pet events. Watched Eugene / Justin / Kaiming and Noman fight it out for 3K, 5K and Steeple (which we lost all the golds to NTU >.<) and stayed to the final event of 4x400m which was superrrr eggciting! TP had a ~150m lead on NUS sometime during the race, but our last runner from NUS (superr imba) managed to close that gap and eventually overtake her. :D

Akira Swift Relay
Eric formed his own team of graduates to participate in this relay.. He thought a medal would be easy picking seeing as how there are usually very few teams signing up for these races.. but he didn't expect the Gurkhas to form THREE teams and sweep the top prizes.

To think back on it, it was a really sad day for NUS.. The girls was misinformed by the stupid road marshals to take the wrong route.. Hence almost being disqualified and eventually getting last placing.. The guys had fierce competition as there were 24 men's open teams. Only one out of our 4 teams managed to get any prizes.. AND WE DIDN'T WIN A SINGLE LUCKY DRAW WTF!!!

Five teams worth of lucky draw names and not a single one was drawn. Small groups of 1 or 2 teams managed to get like 3-4 lucky draw prizes.

It's a conspiracy i tell you..

Spent all afternoon watching glee videos coz i'm not feeling well..

My Valentine's Day

*this post was written the day after Valentine's day but I didn't have time to complete it till now.. 

Yesterday I went to bed with a sappy smile on my face.. (:

I received a call from the mailroom yesterday around 10 telling me to come by and collect my flowers. Normally whenever I receive such calls first thing I would say is "are you sure you have the right Valerie??" which was exactly what I did. they were like "Yesssssss sureeee".

Hoookay.. So I looked around speculatively to see if anyone got flowers or if they were preoccupied enough to not notice me coming back with flowers. LOL I was a little shy to have my colleagues teasing me about it.

The mailroom was full of the mailroom staff and they were like chanting merrily you have flowers from your hot boyfriend.. They kept emphasising on the hot boyfriend part. I was a little bewildered.. How did they know my boyfriend was hot?? :P It turned out that the sender on the invoice was "Eric Chan, hot boyfriend" LOLLLL

the rest of the day was rather uneventful. Our valentines day date only began around 8pm? I was dying of hunger by then. I had to wait for Eric to go home and get the car. When he started driving westwards I got really curious. Where could we possibly be going in the west? Bukit timah? Holland v?

It turned out to be Dempsey lollll.. Can u imagine.. He took AYE then buona vista exit from my office. It was like going one biggggg round to get there. He was afraid there would be jam getting there so he took this longer route.

He brought me to this restaurant called Au Petit Salut. Never been there before but I was quite excited. :D They had a lovely atmosphere. Almost everyone there were on their valentine's day date, everyone was a happy celebratory mood. on a random note, I guess it would really suck to be single and out and about on valentine's day.

Here's Eric.. looking all fresh. He managed to squeeze in a quick shower before coming to meet me...

First up, Amuse-bouche. I googled this and apparently it means "Mouth amuser".. So I guess I'll never know what's inside. I expected it to be sweet coz it was served in a dessert cup-like thingy, but it was actually very salty. Really yummyyy when you take it one small bite at a time.. I was so sad when i finished eating mine..

And then we had Oysters! :D the oysters alone were really fresh and yummy.. But they served the oysters with 3 different flavours which didn't really appeal to my unadventurous nature when it comes to food.

First up Champagne Jelly.. This was just weird.. =/

Next.. Natural.. This was the best oyster. It was soaked in lemon juice and some pink beady things which complemented the dish. super upzzzzz! :D

Last was Beignet. This was goood - fried and served with a mayo dip.

I think that's ikura fish roe on top but i could barely taste them.

For the third appetiser (I was getting pretty full by now), we had Foie Gras. They served this really huge chunk of duck liver and the outer layer was fried to a salty crisp. Very niceeeeee :D

And Finally the main course Wagyu Beef.. I love beef, it's very hard to go wrong with beef. I was happy with the beef. The other stuff on the plate - truffled barley, ruby pearls and some weird vege - too adventurous for me aahahah.

And finally dessert. I felt so full by then *bleahs*

After the meal, we went outside to take photos, but this was the only decent one hahah.. the rest too blur.

So Eric presented me with a vday gift in his car.. The present had this really odd wrapping paper. It came off his calendar for his room. You can see the words February in the bottom corner. Poor him, now his calendar is showing march. :P

And this was the present.. :DDD I love love love it! :D

He was telling me he had NO glue in the house at all, so he had to improvise and use.... blu tack! LOL

But I caved last Thursday heehee. Was so frantic to buy this piece from The Closet Lover, but it wouldn't load on my phone! luckily for xiuting.. I used her phone to order this piece. :D

I also got these 2 dress from My Glamour Place.. Can't wait for them to arrive!

Madonna

I've never really thought Madonna was awesome the way I worship Katy Perry and Jessie J. I just thought, well yea Madonna has some nice songs.

That was until I watched the 12minute Superbowl performance that totally wow-ed me away. She is 53 and dances like a dream. :P If you haven't seen it yet (WHAT?!), you can watch it here.

Anyway, I googled Madonna immediately after watching that video and was so sad to see so many people dissing her.. However I did find this one article that salutes Madonna. Despite her promiscuous outfits and string of (failed) relationships, she is inspiring in the way she has gone about doing what she wanted without caring about what other people thought, and most importantly being happy with the choices that she's made. It was a really good article and I strongly encourage you to read it here. (:

Bizad Reunion

I had a small reunion dinner with several of my club mates from bizad last week. Technically it was the week after CNY but we hadn't seen each other in ages.. So it was like a reunion dinner. :P

It all started when I had lunch with Val 2 weeks ago and she asked me how was our dear president. I was like ehhh no idea lehhh. And so I whatsapped him, and started asking a few people here and there to gather for dinner and finally set a date for last Thursday.

8 people turned up. Which was small compared to our committee of 16 people (excluding the 10 vices and maybe some random calafare). But it was just nice.. (: Dinner was a quick and simple affair at Crystal Jade taka and I got to eat my favourite xlbs!

I don't exactly remember what we talked about, but I really really really enjoyed myself that night! (: Some of my friends have not seen each other since graduation. So we mostly just caught up with each other. Finding out how work is... How's everyone's personal life doing... There is more talk of long-term plans. Marriage, houses etc.. Sounds boring, but the company was really fun. (:

I was reacquainted with the long-forgotten nickname given to me back in the day.. "Violent Val". -.-"

Val and I were co-directors and we worked on many projects together. Hence, some people needed a way to differentiate between the two.. Since i had a penchant for throwing shoes at people, i was give that nickname whilst Val was nicknamed "vulgar val".. for obvious reasons. :P

My dear xt whom I hadn't seen in donkey years also came for our gathering. She has always been skinnier than me (which is no easy feat), but one that I have accepted about her and don't nag at her about coz I totally understand it's not from lack of trying. She eats damn alot. But when i saw her at our gathering, she seemed to have slimmed down even more! I was naturally concerned la.. and couldn't help but nag at her about it. She's been really busy at work lately and she hardly has time to go out for lunch so her colleagues buy back for her. I'm guessing she burns her evenings and weekends as well that's why she's lost so much weight. :(((

Genius that I am forgot to bring my camera, so the only group photo was taken by Liren's phone..

I can't wait for the next gathering.. (:

December 2011 - part 3

This is going to be a super long post heh.

After Tricia's birthday celebration at Felicia's house, I had already booked my cousins to go out together. WE were supposed to go sentosa for a picnic, but it rained (thank god for that!). So we settled for playnation instead. (:

I took the opportunity to bring Eric to meet my cousins before christmas so it wouldn't be too intimidating for him on xmas eve. :P

We had initially meant to play both board games and console, but got glued to the console games. We kept playing Guitar Heroes initially, and the bfs played FIFA.. but then we discovered Kinect! :P It's this really fun game that's like DDR but so much easier and more fun. It has this motion detector that can video your moves and see if you are doing it correctly as what is shown on the screen.

I can't remember who won.. they were both quite bad ahahaha.

Christmas eve was spent with my relatives at my place as usual..

The theme was Blue & Yellow (or gold). I didn't wanna wear blue coz I figured everyone would be wearing blue.. So I wore a cream lace dress from Tracyeinny ;P It wasn't exactly Yellow or Gold but so what? :P
