the little things..: NDP 2011!

When was the last time you went the for the actual national day celebration?

The last time I went was in 1997. And it was only for the preview and not the actual celebration, but it was still great fun! I remember they catered KFC meals for everyone (coz it was a school trip), and the ndp pack was full of awesomeness. They would have those cute knick nacks inside and a lot of snacks and goodies. And the best part was carrying that bag around after that and showing off to everyone that I had gone for an actual ndp parade. (: LOL.

Subsequent years, I wasn't really interested to go for the celebration coz I had (supposedly) better things to do with my holiday. And then last year, some of the crossers decided to go Marina Bay area to have a picnic and wait for the fireworks. (: It was nice to sit there and everyone was waiting excitedly for the fireworks, but I didn't really like hearing all the songs and sounds from the floating platform and not knowing what was going on.

And then this year, mum called and asked us if we wanted to go for the NDP Parade at the floating platform just one day before National Day. Initially, Tricia wasn't very interested, but I thought why not? It's not like I had anything better to do. (: and so with the 4 tickets we had, I called Eric and Madan to join us. (:

It was SO HOT AND SO TROUBLESOME GETTING THERE. Tricia & Madan went in first with our tickets, and Eric & I just couldn't get in, or even get near!! We met at Promenade station and walked over only to be turned away coz we didn't have our tickets. Worse, Tricia & Madan were allll the way at the other end of the platform and we had to walk from Suntec and one big circle round Marina Sq to the McDonalds, where the other entrance was. The sun was so hot. X_X

We took like 45mins just walking from the station, before we finally sat down at our seats at the floating platform. >.<

The program started shortly after we reached, and to get into the spirit of things, we started pasting the tattoos on each others'cheeks. (: The parade was a little boring (and cheesy) at some parts, but it was still overall quite enjoyable. The red lions falling from the sky.. The showcase of all their machinery etc, esp where they dropped people out of the chinook into the Singapore River. I was surprised I liked this segment hahah coz I kept looking around, wanting to be the first one to spot thing coming! There were some perfomances etc after that where Tricia kept falling asleep and I was quite bored too, but it was wrapped up very prettily with a super long display of fireworks. There were so many! My camera batt died lol. I took like 217 photos la!! Many in multishot mode. heh heh.
